Puddling Hearth

A fettled cast-iron bed, three rows wide. Fettle a row with iron oxide, then charge it with up to three pigs.

An unfettled row refuses pig outright, because pig laid straight onto bare iron would weld to it; fettling is a running cost paid every heat, not a one-time build cost.
