Iron Tap
The lower tap-hole, at the crucible floor. Drains the furnace's molten metal into a canal below.
A newly built tap comes plugged. Break the plug out with an empty hand, then hold a flame against the open tap to blow the furnace in; four fire clay held against it stops the tap again. Breaking the plug refunds nothing, so lighting a furnace this way costs one clay plug every time it is done.
Put a canal start under the spout first, or accept chiselling the metal out where it solidifies at the mouth. See Furnaces and heat and Molten metal and casting.
