Tuyere

A hot blast intake for the furnace shaft.

The furnace stands on two of these, one at the front and one at the back of the shaft, each asking for its own share of blast air scaled to how hot the hearth is. A pipe has to sit in the cell in front of a tuyere, facing back at it: the tuyere is one node of the pipe network with a connector on that one face, and a pipe merely resting beside it, pointing elsewhere, carries nothing. See Ironmaking for the air each one asks for as the hearth climbs and what counts as blast rather than plain draught.
