Rolled pipes

Rolled piping is the strongest of the three pipe tiers. It holds far more pressure and passes far more gas than the plated and cast pipes of Iron Industry Expanded, and it is what a high-pressure steam line between a Lancashire Boiler and a Cornish Engine wants. It is also welded rather than flanged, so it does not bolt onto the lower tiers at all.

Burst pressure is what the run can be charged to before it bursts, and it doubles as the run's buffer: a network holds burst x segments x 30 litres. Throughput is what the weakest segment passes per second. Length costs nothing and there is no pressure drop along a run.

Four segments ship: Rolled Piping (Straight), Rolled Piping (Bend), Rolled Piping (T-Junction) and Rolled Piping (X-Junction).

The welded joint

A rolled segment couples to another rolled segment and to a machine port, and to nothing else.

Machine ports are not pipes, so the joint rule does not apply to them. Everything that is a pipe carries its domain's joint family, and the lower tiers are flanged.

The Smoke Stack Intake reads as a machine port and is not one: it is a pipe passthrough that names no tier, so it takes the flange and refuses a welded segment. The line into a stack has to be cast or plated pipe.

That leaves a rolled run with no fittings of its own: no valve to shut it, no outlet to vent it, no passthrough to take it through a wall, no pressure valve to relieve it. A rolled line runs from one machine port to another and nothing may be put in the middle of it.

12 atm is exactly the Lancashire Boiler's maximum output pressure, so a rolled main charged by a boiler at full choke sits at its own burst rating.

What goes wrong

The run does not connect and nothing warns. Butting a rolled segment against a cast or plated one produces two separate networks. A refused joint does not read as an open end, so there is no leak, no particle and no message: the line does not carry.

There is nowhere to put a valve. There is no rolled valve. A line that needs shutting off has to be shut at the machine, or built in cast pipe instead and kept under 5 atm.
